DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Tokens adopts a holistic design approach grounded in key principles including human-centric design, biophilic design, and Passive House principles, among others.

Biophilic design is based on the scientific understanding that humans have an innate connection to nature. Research shows that visual and physical interaction with natural elements—such as exposed timber—can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve cognitive performance.

In addition, the use of natural materials enhances recyclability, circularity, and compostability, while also helping to reduce a building’s embodied carbon.

DIGITAL MANUFACTURING
As demonstrated across industries beyond construction, the centralisation of 3D digital design and digital manufacturing technologies leads to greater project efficiency and improved outcomes. Tokens supports and applies Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including prefabrication, off-site manufacturing, modular construction, 3D printing, Topology, AI-enabled processes, and digital twins.

In addition, digital design methodologies such as parametric design provide greater design freedom, enabling more innovative, organic forms and geometries.

Within these contemporary design and construction methods, there is also a place for artisanal craftsmanship. Tokens successfully integrates and balances these two approaches.

CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGIES

By integrating both design and construction methodologies and technologies, Tokens is well positioned to operate across both disciplines, delivering optimal project outcomes.

STANDARDS AND POLICIES

The way infrastructure projects are managed is changing rapidly, as demonstrated by developments such as ISO 19650 for information management and ISO 55001 for asset management, the NSW Asset Management Policy, and the NSW Infrastructure Digitalisation and Data Policy. More recently, the NSW Government announced funding for a Modern Methods of Construction Facility.

STRATEGIC POSITIONING

Depending on the nature of the project, Tokens positions itself between the asset owner, the designers and architects, and the builders responsible for delivery.

At times, Tokens acts as the owner’s representative; in other cases, it provides strategic guidance to the builder and/or architect — always adapting its role to suit the specific needs of the project.
