Coast Outdoor Bean Bags

Coast New Zealand was established by Nicola and Alex Webster in 2004.

Having observed America’s Cup yacht racing on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf from several uncomfortable spectator boats, Alex developed the Marine Bean – literally a marine beanbag – through a design process that involved trial and error and quite a lot of lounging about in prototypes. A tough job, but someone had to do it.

While still popular on yachts, the Marine Bean has since found its real home ashore in homes, hotels and resorts in New Zealand and around the world and remains our best-selling product.

Coast New Zealand continues to borrow many of the materials and methods that were previously the reserve of luxury yacht-building: Contemporary ocean-going sailing yachts must be comfortable, even opulent, and yet withstand the harshest conditions at sea. We aim, in our own small way, to emulate the exacting standards of modern boat builders in our choice of materials and use of good design. If it can survive on the ocean, it can survive on your deck.

Every Coast product is hand-made in New Zealand using the very best marine-grade materials including fade-resistant Sunbrella brand fabrics, quick-drying reticulated foam and stainless-steel fittings.
The result is a collection of contemporary outdoor furniture and accessories that is as luxurious as it is durable, as stylish as it is practical.Enduring Comfort, Timeless Style.

The availability of low-cost, man-made materials has unfortunately led to a proliferation of cheap plastic furniture, the durability of which can usually be measured only by its half-life in a land-fill. We believe that the ocean, the great outdoors, our customers and their homes deserve better: durable furniture and accessories with enduring appeal.
